Big money and corporations have undue influence in elections and policymaking, profoundly distorting our democracy.
Emily is a strong supporter of public financing of campaigns. She supports a local clean elections program for city council and school board candidates. She also supports a constitutional amendment that would overturn Buckley v. Valeo and Citizens United and allow strict limits on campaign spending, campaign contributions, and corporate spending in elections.
In the current system, progressive candidates need adequate financial resources to compete against corporate money and win. Emily will only seek out and accept contributions consistent with her progressive values.
Emily will not accept contributions from for-profit corporations, corporate PACs, or individuals who own or have high-level positions with for-profit companies that have business before the school board.
